How it works
How to use the ai photo enhancer
The AI upscale mode runs an ESRGAN super-resolution neural network (UpscalerJS on TensorFlow.js) directly in your browser using your phone or computer's graphics chip. The photo is processed in small tiles with a progress bar, so it works on phones too, and it never leaves your device. Choose 2× for most photos and 4× for small images such as old profile pictures or WhatsApp downloads.
Auto light & colour stretches the tones, corrects brightness and adds a touch of saturation; Sharpen & denoise smooths grain while crisping edges. Both are instant and private. The three cloud modes send the photo to free public Hugging Face Spaces: HD upscale (Real-ESRGAN general x4v3), Restore old photo (GFPGAN v1.4 face restoration plus upscaling) and Remove background (BRIA RMBG-1.4, whose licence is for non-commercial use).
Honest limits: AI can't recover detail that was never captured, faces can look smoothed, and text may come out soft. On-device upscaling is limited to about 1024 px input for 2× and 512 px for 4× so phones don't run out of memory; larger photos are resized first. Speed depends on your device and, for cloud modes, the queue.

Questions about this tool
Is my photo uploaded?
Not in AI upscale, Auto light & colour or Sharpen & denoise: those run entirely in your browser. HD upscale, Restore old photo and Remove background send the photo to a public Hugging Face Space for processing.
How big can the photo be?
Up to 25 MB. For on-device upscaling the photo is resized to about 1024 px (2×) or 512 px (4×) on the longest side first, so results come out up to about 2048 px.
Why is it slow on my phone?
The neural network runs on your device's graphics chip. Fast mode and 2× are quickest; Best detail and 4× take longer. Keep the tab open until it finishes.
Is it free for commercial use?
The tool is free. The on-device ESRGAN models are MIT-licensed. Check each cloud model's licence on Hugging Face; BRIA RMBG-1.4 is licensed for non-commercial use.
