How it works
How to use the palette generator
A consistent palette is the fastest way to make posts, logos and shop signage feel like one brand. This generator mixes colours using classic colour-wheel rules — analogous for calm, complementary for contrast, triadic for energy, monochrome for a premium look — or picks the dominant colours from any image you upload.
Click a HEX code to copy it, lock the colours you want to keep, and regenerate the rest until the set feels right. Each swatch shows its contrast against white so you can check that text will stay readable; aim for at least 4.5:1 for body text.
The palette-from-image option runs a small clustering algorithm in your browser on a shrunk copy of the photo, so it is quick and private. It is ideal for matching a product shot, a shop interior or a client's existing logo.
- Choose a colour rule or upload an image.
- Lock the colours you like.
- Press Generate (or the space bar) to refresh the others.
- Copy single HEX codes, all codes, or the CSS variables.
FAQ
Questions about this tool
How many colours should a brand use?
Most small brands work well with one main colour, one accent and two or three neutrals for text and backgrounds.
Can I use these colours commercially?
Yes. Colours themselves aren't owned; use any palette you create here freely.
Is the image I upload stored?
No. It is read in your browser to calculate the colours and is never uploaded.
What does the contrast number mean?
It's the WCAG contrast ratio against white. 4.5:1 or more is recommended for normal-size text.
