How it works

How to use the video size & ratio

Video file size is simply bitrate × duration. A 10-minute video at 8 Mbps with 192 kbps audio is roughly 615 MB. This calculator does that maths for you, and also works backwards: tell it the size you need (for a WhatsApp or email limit, for example) and it tells you the video bitrate to set in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or HandBrake.

Presets use YouTube's recommended SDR upload bitrates, such as 8 Mbps for 1080p at 24–30 fps and 12 Mbps at 48–60 fps. Higher bitrates mean better quality but bigger files.

The aspect-ratio calculators simplify any resolution (1920 × 1080 is 16:9) and solve the missing side for a target ratio, so you can set up a 9:16 Reel, a 4:5 feed video or a 21:9 cinematic crop without guesswork. Most encoders need even pixel dimensions.

  1. Enter video and audio bitrate and the duration to see the file size.
  2. Or enter a target size to get the bitrate you need.
  3. Use the ratio tools to check or create resolutions.
  4. Copy the numbers into your editor's export settings.

FAQ

Questions about this tool

What bitrate should I use for YouTube 1080p?

YouTube recommends about 8 Mbps for 1080p at 24, 25 or 30 fps and about 12 Mbps at 48, 50 or 60 fps for SDR uploads.

Why is my file a different size than calculated?

Variable bitrate encoding, container overhead and metadata change the final size slightly. Treat the result as an estimate.

What resolution is 9:16?

The standard is 1080 × 1920 pixels, used for Reels, Shorts, Stories and WhatsApp status.

Is MB here 1000 or 1024?

Results use 1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes, like most upload sites. The MiB figure shows the 1024-based number some computers display.
