How it works
How to use the gst calculator
Goods and Services Tax is charged on the taxable value of a sale. If you quote a price before GST, the tax is added on top: ₹10,000 at 18% becomes ₹11,800. If a price already includes GST, the tax inside it is price × rate ÷ (100 + rate), so ₹11,800 contains ₹1,800 of GST and a taxable value of ₹10,000.
For a sale within the same state, the GST is split equally into Central GST and State GST (or Union Territory GST). For an inter-state sale, the full amount is Integrated GST. This calculator does both splits instantly as you type.
Since the GST 2.0 reforms took effect on 22 September 2025, most goods and services fall in the 5% or 18% slab, with 40% for luxury and sin goods; nil, 0.25% and 3% still apply to specific items, and a few items remain at 12% or 28%. The rate depends on the HSN or SAC code of what you sell, so confirm it on the CBIC rate finder or with your CA before invoicing.
- Enter the amount.
- Choose the GST rate for your item or service.
- Say whether the amount is before or including GST.
- Pick same-state or inter-state to see CGST/SGST or IGST.
FAQ
Questions about this tool
How do I calculate GST from a total amount?
GST inside a total = total × rate ÷ (100 + rate). For ₹1,180 at 18%, GST = ₹180 and the taxable value is ₹1,000.
What are the current GST slabs?
After GST 2.0 (22 September 2025), the main slabs are 0%, 5%, 18% and 40%, plus special rates such as 3% on gold and 0.25% on rough diamonds. Confirm your item's rate by HSN/SAC.
When do I charge IGST instead of CGST and SGST?
Charge IGST when the place of supply is in a different state from yours; charge CGST + SGST for sales within your state.
Is this calculator official?
No. It's an estimate tool. Rates and rules change, so verify with the GST portal or your CA.
