How to use the background remover
This background remover runs an open AI segmentation model inside your browser with transformers.js, so your photo is never sent to a server. The Fast model is MODNet (Apache-2.0 licence, about 26 MB), made for people and portraits. The Best model is BiRefNet lite (MIT licence, about 115 MB), better for products, objects and fine edges; it is quickest on a laptop browser with WebGPU and can be slow or run out of memory on phones.
The model downloads once from Hugging Face and is then cached by your browser, so the next photos start quickly. Use Transparent PNG for designs, thumbnails and stickers, White for marketplace product photos, or pick a solid brand colour. Hair, glass and objects that match the background are hard for any automatic tool; for ads or print, a hand-finished cut-out is still best.

Questions about this tool
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Only the AI model is downloaded to your browser; the photo is processed on your device.
Which model should I use?
Fast (MODNet) for people, selfies and portraits, and on phones. Best (BiRefNet lite) for products and objects, ideally on a laptop with a recent Chrome or Edge.
Why is the first run slow?
The model (about 26 MB or 115 MB) downloads once. After that it is cached and only the processing time remains.
Can I use the result commercially?
Yes. Both models are under permissive open licences (Apache-2.0 and MIT) that allow commercial use; you are responsible for rights to the photo itself.
